Interestingly Flavoured Android

The Xperia X10 Mini is a follow up of it older version the Xperia X10. The size has been cut down to half that of its older brother but has maintained as many features. It runs on the Android 1.6 version with a sprinkle of Sony Ericsson’s own flavour. The Mini sports a QWERTY keypad as against the popularly used on-screen keyboard that makes typing easier and precise on a phone this small. The buttons on the keypad are large and responsive however, it does not work on the landscape mode. The home screen is also designed to suit the display. You can easily select between home screens and conveniently store up to 1 widget and 4 shortcuts on each screen. The widgets sit in the middle of the screen providing you with live info saving you the trouble of having to open an app.

One of Sony Ericsson’s prestigious features the Timescape is not very impressive on the Mini. It collates information by integrating data from social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook as well as call log and displays them for you. However, as with the X10 version, only the first few words of the update are shown. To view the entire message or reply to it you will have to open their website.

Lagging behind

Tweaking the Android has left the Mini working on the Android 1.6 version while many of the latest smart phones operate the 2.2 version. The phone is just as effective and efficient on Android 1.6 albeit a few features and apps are not available on this version. Nevertheless, you can download apps and use Google features like Gmail and Maps.

The Mini also boasts of its fast web browsing capabilities over 3G with its HSPA technology. You can also store videos and photos in the 16GB microSD memory card in addition to its internal memory of 128MB.

In short, all the features and apps you would find on many of the high end phones are neatly packed into the Mini making it a sleek and handy device.
